April 20, 2018: Wild West

April 20, 2018

Wild West 401 E Whitestone Blvd, Cedar Park, TX (Williamson County) is fairly new venue. This is one of the local dance floors my classmates gather. Friday nights from 6:30 – 7:30 is a free dance lesson put on by Arthur Murray Dance Studio.  You can learn the basic steps to Two Step, Waltz, Texas Shuffle, and often a Jitterbug in the hour.

Upstairs seating allows you to look over the dance floor and is used for VIP holders during concerts. Smoking is allowed outside only. There is a popcorn machine in the corner, and two full bars at either end of the floor.  Sawdust in the corners of the dance floor help keep your boots moving.  The DJ plays popular songs, and if you don’t mind waiting awhile, will get to your request sometime during the night.  Line dances are thrown in the mix.  Several tv’s are set up over the back bar. If it gets too hot, the bartenders are willing to turn the fans on.

We see many of the same people each week.  Leaders and followers ask for dances. First Friday of the month you’ll find meet up groups gathering.  The bouncers at the door are willing to walk you to your car if you are uncomfortable.

Our next dance opportunity was at Georgetown Poppy Fest. No official dance floor, but the courthouse lawn worked just fine for the concert.
