February 2, 2018 Coupland Dance Hall

February 2, 2018

Coupland Dancehall, at 101 Hoxie St, Coupland, TX (Williamson County) is a charming place. Built in 1904, there’s a bed and breakfast above, and a dining establishment just up the steps next to the dance floor.  The dance hall, bed and breakfast and cafe are all reputed to be haunted. Currently owned by Abbey Road, it’s a great place for family and friends to meet. Coupland History

The dance floor is an adequate size with a raised stage for the bands. The nice thing about the floor is that they DON’T sprinkle floor dust all over. If you need some slick to your boots, check the corners. Tables are set up around the dance rails, there’s a pool table in the corner and two bars and a small tv on the wall.  Staff is very friendly.  There used to be a sign on the door that said keep your weapons in the car.  I’ve never seen any trouble here.  A big X on the back of the hand indicates underage, others get a wrist band.  Many people bring their young children and teach them to dance on the floor – mothers with their son or dads with the little girls. Pretty soon the youngsters are dancing with each other!

This was the first place my dance partner and I danced in 2014. This year the band Terry Hughes and the Debonairs were playing.  They’re a fantastic cover band and we enjoy seeing them at the various venues as we dance across Texas.

I’m excited to see new blood (Abbey Road) heading up the dance hall.  Wish #1 is the dance floor will continue to be reserved for dancing, not congregating around the stage.  Wish #2 is that people will keep their drinks off the dance floor. Spilled beer is slick, then sticky and no one likes to slip or twist an ankle!

The next dance hall was Mavericks on Feb. 9th
