Round Top Rifle Hall: Visited August 15, 2020

We have visited Round Top Rifle hall in the past. It’s located at 710 FM 1457, Round Top. It’s a member owned organization, formed in 1873 by German immigrants. The purpose was for the “support and encouragement in innocent outdoor sports, such as bicycle riding, target and trap shooting, open air athletics, games, dancing…” David Walther, hall manager for Round Top Rifle Association, met us and gave us a little history and allowed us to dance on their magnificent floor.

The hall was built in 1912. There used to be a bowling alley, carousel, saloon, ice cream stand and outhouses. They host an annual Fourth of July celebration. It’s the longest running celebration west of the Mississippi, having just passed 170 years. The annual Schutzenfest has been going strong for 145 years. They have an annual OktoBierFest and Monday hamburger socials – when COVID isn’t interferring.

A well utilized bbq pit
Socially distanced, masked dancing – it is possible!
