Priddy American Legion #487:Visited Sept 9, 2023

The American Legion #487 in Priddy can be found at 68 East FM 218, just south of Comanche. We met some friends for a night of dancing to J. Rodney Dunn and the Lost Frijoles band.

The Legion has been in existence since 1951. The first building burned and was rebuilt in the same location. I took pictures of the list of original charter members. One name on there, Mr. Limmer, is the only original member alive and still comes out to the hall. This area used to be a big military area, so it’s only fitting the American Legion sprang up here to support those who served our country.

Dances are held the second Saturday of the month. Cost is $15 per person if you are 18 or older, $10 for those 12-17, and 11 or under are free. UPDATE: They are no longer holding monthly dances. They will post on Facebook any upcoming dances held.

There is a concession stand where you can purchase water, soda, or something to eat. The venue is BYOB and coolers are welcome. We saw some pretty big coolers being brought in! Air conditioning and ceiling fans kept the dancefloor comfortable.

The seating area has about 25 tables, with 6-8 chairs per table.

Looking at their Facebook page for past events, we saw a corn hole tournament and selling brisket and sausage in the month of August. They don’t have a phone number that I could find. If you want to contact them (hall rental, dance information) use their Facebook page. They respond pretty quickly.

The band played lots of great dance songs. They’ve been together about 3 years and have gigs booked about twice a month. Their manager called the Legion Hall and booked this event. It was their first time here. We were glad to be there!

The floor was large, and covered in sawdust as you can see from the photo above. Most locals knew to wear sneakers so they wouldn’t fall. We were careful to keep our feet on the floor in our leather soled boots!

There is plenty of space to park. Plenty of space around too. They got about an inch of welcome rain just before the dance.

This space is family oriented. We always love the family atmosphere. We watched the younger kids chase each other during the band breaks, and being picked up and twirled around on (and off) the floor. I was shown a new to us dance – the Texas 1 1/2 step. Can’t say I mastered the form, but I did have fun.

This is a great venue. Wonderful floor (bring your sneakers), nice folks, laid-back atmosphere, and plenty of parking. Make a trip out and see for yourself!

Note: The leave a reply/write a comment link below will go to us. If you are trying to reach the dance hall, please check the blog for contact information. We try to put phone, website, or Facebook links if known. Thanks for reading and hope to see you on a dance floor sometime!
