March 18, 2018: Granger Cotton Country Club

March 18, 2018

Granger Cotton Country Club 212 E Davilla St, Granger, TX (Williamson county) was called Granger Cotton Club when we started dancing here.  Located in Granger, Texas on the main street just across from the police station.  Bubba and Jill Cox were the owners, and just recently sold it to Nate and Jamie Rae Church, the former owners of Hippo Hut (effective January 1, 2019).  This visit we heard Clay Cotton open for Jake Worthington, from season 6 of The Voice.  Both Clay and Jake were very humble, gracious and enjoyable to listen and dance to.

Granger has a nice dance floor, and is very family oriented. We generally see at least one family dancing with their young (5-12 year old) children. Birthday and anniversary parties are common. They serve burgers and salads, have a full bar, several TV’s with local or national sports games showing.  There is an upstairs seating area, which isn’t usually used. A large outdoor area, with an arbor, tractors and water feature are available for smokers, though many long time patrons still smoke inside. Locals come for the dinner, stay for dancing.  Staff is always friendly. The arm band allows you to go out and get dry clothes from the vehicle and return to dance some more. Update: March, 2019 they have a no re-entry policy and you may only smoke outside – inside is now smoke free.

The floor can get very crowded, depending on the song and/or the band. Don’t expect to do a lot of fancy moves on the floor – there won’t be room. But you’ll see a lot of regulars and everyone having a good time. We’ve seen Debonairs, Josh Ward, Pearl Snaps and lately Second Hand Rose here – all great bands to listen to but especially to dance!
